Katsuragi Hotel Kitanomaru
The hotel opened in 1978. It inherits the climate and culture of Enshu, and its name is derived from the kanji for “kudzu vine”, a product of the region since ancient times, as well as the remains of the castle that once stood there. The hotel grounds convey traditional Japanese beauty and craftsmanship and were designed by famous architect Kenji Ichionimiya. They consist of relocated old private residences that are both strong yet elegant and thatched with Anshu tiles, as well as a garden.

The hotel grounds feature a chisen-kaiyu shiki-teien garden (garden with paths surrounding a pond in the middle), with old trees such as Japanese black pines and camphor trees, as well as seasonal flowers. The scenery here changes brilliantly between seasons, from a light yellowish green in spring, to fresh greenery in summer, to red maple leaves in autumn, and to a tranquil winter.
Sunsets offer an elegant sight, with the building roofs and greenery fading into the twilight.
Enjoy a moment surrounded by nature. Once you cross Musasabi Bridge, a steel suspension bridge, from the promenade inside a natural forest at the back of the garden, you will come upon an expanse of flowering trees and shrubs, such as Japanese zelkova, rhododendrons, cherry blossoms, and Japanese apricots.
Katsuragi Hotel Kitanomaru beckons its guests into a tranquil and elegant atmosphere.
